Principal Responsibilities:


The Early Childhood Director is a primary member of the Senior Leadership Team of Mandel JCC.As such, the staff person will be supervised by a member of the Mandel JCC Executive Management Team. This position is a 40 hour/week, 52 week/year position. While the pre-school calendar runs for 10 months (September - June), summer months (July - August) may find the Early Childhood Director responsible for the Jewish Community Center's Summer Early Childhood Camp Programs.

The Early Childhood Director will have primary responsibility for conceptualizing, structuring and putting into practice a comprehensive set of progressive programmatic options for young children and their families. These programs will focus on providing nurturing socialization and educational opportunities via the implementation of an emergent educational approach that promotes healthy maturation within creative learning and Judaic environments.

Tasks Related to the Jewish Purposes and Goals of the Jewish Community Center

  1. Knowledge and willingness to continue learning about the culture of the Jewish community
  2. Work with staff to explore opportunities for infusion of Jewish content in programs and services
  3. Understand and interpret the Jewish Community Center's commitment to pluralism in Judaism
  4. Integration of appropriate Judaic curriculum for young children
  5. Implementation of JCC Association's Sheva program,

Essential Tasks Related to Early Childhood Program

  1. Development of age appropriate curriculum - both secular and Judaic.
  2. Articulate Jewish Community Center approach to early childhood education, in both written and verbal formats - for parents and staff
  3. Development and implementation of adjunct family early childhood programs throughout the year (i.e. Parent Place parenting center programs
  4. Assure compliance with all State of Florida licensing, health and safety regulations
  5. Responsibility for all recruitment, registration and intake of children
  6. Overall responsibility for recruitment, training and supervision of early childhood staff (both full and part-time).
  7. Preparation, implementation, monitoring and management of early childhood department budget(s) and administrative processes (i.e. registration, solicitation and review of parent feedback)
  8. Payroll preparation for all early childhood staff
  9. In conjunction with marketing and graphic design staff - preparation of marketing strategies and materials for early childhood programs.
  10. Conceptualization, preparation and implementation of new and returning student registration/enrollment and intake processes.
  11. All administrative, programmatic development and supervisory tasks related to summer Early Childhood Day Camp programs
  12. Track and evaluate program participation in early childhood programs. Critically assess participation and trends. Produce participation assessment reports. Use information gathered as a financial and program planning tools.

  5. Familiarity with Sheva, preferred
  6. Mature and confident (not cocky) presentation of self.
  7. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  8. Exceptional supervisory skills
  9. Highly organized and able to maintain focus and calm in highly pressured professional environment
  10. Ability to manage multiple priorities, simultaneously

Tasks Related to Customer Service Management

  1. Develop and implement customer service priorities, standards and procedures
  2. Assure timely response to member inquiries, questions, complaints and compliments
  3. Assist participants in negotiating the "systems of the Center."

Tasks related to Relationship Building

  1. Build professional relationships with parents of program participants both as role model and catalyst for making the Jewish Community Center experience "personal."
  2. Assure focus on relationship building in orientation, training and supervision of part-time staff
  3. Conduct new member in-reach programs to assure contact with new JCC members

Tasks related to Lay Leadership

  1. Develop and work with lay committees, task forces and work groups to assure community and parental participation inand commitment to Jewish Community Center early childhood programs.

General Tasks of All JCC Staff

  1. Promote and implement the Core Values of the Jewish Community Center
  2. Participation in staff meetings and staff training seminars, as assigned
  3. Participation in agency-wide programs and program committees, as assigned
  4. Participation in schedule of staff building coverage assignments
  5. Attendance and participation at Jewish Community Center Board meetings, as assigned
  6. Active involvement, as a supervisee, in the supervision process
  7. Support the mission of the Jewish Community Center
  8. Other tasks appropriate to Jewish Community Center staff, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge/education: Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years of proven experience as early childhood director
  3. State of Florida Early Childhood Director Certification, preferred
  4. Superior relationship building and communications skills
  5. Strong knowledge of constructivist learning educational methodology
  6. Capacity for building strong supervisory relationships
  7. Competent financial management ability
  8. Proven experience in customer service management and quality service delivery
  9. Good critical, creative thinking and decision-making skills
  10. Strong verbal and written skills
  11. Must demonstrate the aptitude and willingness to be a visible and active team player in a customer service environment
