Principal Responsibilities:

Purpose/Scope of Responsibility

The Camp Director is responsible for all aspects of creating, implementing and supervising the day to day aspects of the day camp included, but not limited to, planning, programming, budget, operations, implementation, promoting, staffing , camper recruitment and retention of a high quality Day Camp with additional year round programming responsibilities.The director will provide strategic leadership and vision in all aspects of the camp that are innovative and keep up with the current trends while upholding the goals, values and mission of the JCC and maintains compliance with state licensing and ACA.The camp director is an active member of the JCC staff team in all agency-wide programs.JCC Camp Ruach is a 9-week day camp in Bridgewater, NJ currently serving over 575 campers ranging in age from 2 years old through entering grade 9.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Responsible for administration of all aspects of day camp and year round Camp Ruach related programming.

Define camp goals and plan program to reflect those goals.

Lead and manage the day to day operations of the summer camp.

Responsible for financial oversight and budgeting

Maintain and review records and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff and facilities

Monitor camp enrollment and key statistics

Manage all contractual requirements including vendors and transportation

Develop and implement a day camp committee

Maintain state licensing for all programs and ACA accreditation ensuring that camp complies with all applicable rules/regulations related to licensing and accreditation

Oversight of all on site Camp facilities for safety, cleanliness and repairs/upgrades as needed

Develop and implement year round camp experiences to keep campers and parents connected during off hours in the summer time and throughout the year.

Explore revenue producing opportunities for the camp and camp property

Maintain effective communication with staff and camp families prior to and throughout the camp season.

Coordinate activities and staffing with Special Services Director for inclusion camps and Special Needs Programming.

Serve on the JCC Bridgewater Program Staff Team

?Marketing and Recruitment

Plan and execute a Day Camp marketing strategy in conjunction with JCC Marketing Department for outreach on recruitment and retention.

Recruit campers through participation in personal meetings, camp fairs, parlor meetings, in-home visits, etc. as well as overall JCC childrens programs

Maintain and update recruitment statistics and activity

Network with other community organizations, Federation, synagogues and day schools for collaboration and recruitment

Responds promptly to customer needs

Solicits customer feedback to improve service and then responds appropriately with changes.

Open Minded to work all types of campers and families


Responsible for supervision and management of all camp staff including year round and summer camp employees

Works closely with year round camp management team: Camp Registrar and Camp Director of Programs and Operations.

Collaborate with all other JCC personnel for camp and other JCC programs

Recruit, Hire and oversee summer staff

Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff trainings

Provide an atmosphere for developing positive staff morale and well-being among all staff.

Open Minded to work all types of staff

Ability to motivate others and develop a team

Minimum Qualifications:

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in related field (Masters Degree preferred)

Ability to plan, originate, organize and carry out daily and special programs

Proven experience in directing camp programs

Works well in a team as well as on own

Highly Organized and detail oriented

Ability to adapt with frequent change, delays and unexpected events

Minimum two years supervisory experience

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Current CPR and first aid certifications or willingness to acquire

Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Working knowledge of CampMinder or be comfortable learning camp management system.

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC is a full-service agency which provides programs and services to the community, from pre-school through older adults, including early childhood education, school-age programming, special needs programming, teen services, adult and older adult programs, as well as day camp, summer pool club, health, fitness and recreation programs for all ages.The JCC also provides a variety of cultural arts programs and programs with significant Judaic content. We collaborate with other community agencies including the United Way, Somerset Art Association, and area synagogues. The JCC is in its 17th year of operation. All indicators point to the success of the Center  growing membership and membership retention, growing camp and early childhood programs, increased usage by adults and teens, and a growing senior program.
