Principal Responsibilities:

The Director of Camp JCC is responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of our day camp and "school out" related programs. This position provides overall leadership, direction, supervision and accountability for our day camp and school's out/school break programming and more.

The Director of Camp JCC will be an important part of our JCC team of professionals. We are seeking an exceptional leader and team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a strong educational and camp background, as well as a strong background in management and teambuilding with experience working with children and youth. This person will have a strong desire to help make an impact in both the Jewish community and the community at large. The ideal candidate is someone who has the vision and motivation to make a difference in the lives of the children, parents, volunteers and staff with whom they will work.

Principal Responsibilities:


-Lead the camp team in designing, delivering and evaluating camp programs to ensure that they meet and exceed the needs and interests of the campers.

-Supervise daily operation of camp, including administration, camper care, staff supervision and camp licensing.

-Maintain awareness, knowledge and understanding of current social trends, including Jewish camping, child development, social media and customer service.

-Exceptional communication and customer service.

-Develop new and maintain existing youth & camping programs and center-wide activities to ensure participation, positive membership growth and sustainability, and add value to JCC membership.

-Work with the team to assist in implementing innovative, creative JCC programs for all ages of our children; youth, tweens, teens and families in accordance with the JCC's overall mission and culture.

-Develop and implement recruiting strategies to attract new families to the programs.

-Maintain and develop active committees, communicate and collaborate with these active user groups, responding to community interests and needs in developing quality programs and services. Seek collaboration with external partners.

-Exceptional marketing of the department through print and digital media including website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and all new platforms in cooperation with the JCC marketing department.

-Ability to lead, hire, supervise, motivate and inspire a majority of young, energetic and less experienced staff to help them find their strengths inspired by clear and effective communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

-Undergraduate degree required (Master's degree preferred) in child development, education, social work, recreation or related field.

-Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience with hiring, training and termination authority.

-Minimum 3-5 years of management and/or supervisory experience in children's day or overnight camp setting.

-Strong management skills, including the ability to inspire, train, mentor and lead staff members.

-Exceptional skill and capacity for engagement and relationship building with diverse constituencies (campers, parents, staff, volunteers, alumni, board members, donors, etc).

-Demonstrated experience working with youth, parents and volunteers.

-Strong verbal and written communication skills.

-Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.

-Interest in and/or a commitment to learning Jewish history, culture and traditions in the context of the JCC and tikkun olam (repairing the world).

Work Environment & Schedule:

Some flexibility in work schedule is necessary based on the needs of the program, which will include some evenings, weekends and overnight events.
