Principal Responsibilities:

The Pre-K Head Teacher must provide leadership to maintain the high quality of the JCC's Nursery School, provide excellent care and education for young children, and build strong collaborations with families. Our school operates on a nine month school calendar with the opportunity to work summer camp.

Minimum Qualifications:


Undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; a minimum of three years teaching Pre-K children ages four and five

Must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.

Essential that he/she have the personality and ability to provide warmth, leadership and stability for program continuity.


Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Plan, supervise and implement a stimulating program as a leader in team effort with an Assistant Teacher in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Early Childhood Department and the JCC.

Ensure that the Pre-K child is given support and opportunities to build the skills needed for Kindergarten entrance.

Gear the program to the individual needs of each child with special concern for their interests, talents, learning styles and family dynamics.

Observe and record children's behavior during routines and transitions.

Complete formal assessments for each child and leading biannual parent/teacher conferences.

Help each child become aware of his/her role as an integral member of the group and treat him/her with dignity and respect.

Take responsibility for the ordered arrangement and appearance of a child-centered classroom. Assist in general housekeeping of classroom.

Attend all staff meetings and other recommended JCC functions.

Maintain current certification in First Aid and child CPR.

Participate in and document at least 12 clock hours of continuing education a year. Plus 3 additional hours on health and safety issues.

Attend meetings and conferences of professional organizations as a representative of the Early Childhood Department. Participation in professional organizations is highly recommended.

Report to the Early Childhood Director/Early Childhood Assistant Director.

Other duties as assigned.
