The Schwartz/Reisman Centre and Prosserman JCC ("The Js") are looking for a dynamic, creative and experienced camping professional to join our team as the Director of the Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp.

The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp Experience

The Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp was founded in 1989 and is the largest Jewish Day Camp in the GTA. Currently located on the state of the art Joseph and Wolf Lebovic Jewish Community Campus in Vaughan, the Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp is home to approximately 1000 campers and 200 staff every summer. The program is designed to engage campers between the ages of 5-14 through a variety of high quality general and specialty camp activities. At the core of the Centre Camp mission is fostering a connection to Jewish life and building future leadership for our community.

In the off season, the Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp offers break camps and year-round engagement opportunities to ensure that families can experience everything the program has to offer 365 days per year.

The development of a second camp program is on the horizon once construction is completed on the expanded home of the Prosserman JCC in the new Sheff Family Building on Sherman Campus in early 2020. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to lead the visioning process to build a multi-site camp model that will expand on the current depth and breadth of our offerings.

As the scope of the J continues to grow, we are looking for leadership in the camping field to build upon the current success of the Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp and guide the program to new heights.

Role Summary:

As an innovative and inspirational leader with strong attention to detail, the Camp Director will develop the strategic vision for the future of the Jack and Pat Kay Centre Camp while overseeing all current operations at the Lebovic Campus location. The role includes:

Maintaining the safe, welcoming, inclusive and high-quality camping experience that our families have come to expect

Serve as a role model in championing the vision, mission and values of the J.

Developing a comprehensive camper recruitment and retention strategy

Working with other departments at the J and loyal camper families to deepen the connection to the J and our community

Responsible for all staff recruitment and leadership development

Create a strategy for year-round engagement of camp families at the J

Development and management of annual budgets as well as long range financial forecasts

Ensuring program quality and standards are met and consistently strengthened

Map out a multi-campus camping strategy and develop a new camp program on the Sherman Campus in Toronto (2020)

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have extensive Director experience in the camping industry, and will be:

Passionate about Jewish programming and community building

Excited about working within a larger J infrastructure to create year-round engagement opportunities for the entire community.

Motivated by working with teens to develop the future leaders of our community

A visionary in building a multisite camping system to reach a greater share of the community

Driven to create a world-class camping program anchored in Jewish values and traditions
