Principal Responsibilities:

ASC YOUTH COUNSELORS

Part-time

Counselors will supervise, lead and participate in activities with school-age children (kindergarten  5th grade) in after-school and school break programs.Counselors must have effective communication skills with children, co-workers and parents and must enjoy working with diverse groups of children in different types of activities.All employees are required to sign a Child Abuse Prevention Code of Conduct and participate in training on this topic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain an orderly and safe environment; specifically, this means:

oNever leave the children unattended;

oAlways escort the children when they need to leave the B wing; escort them back to the B wing when activity has concluded;

oKeep the room neat and tidy after various activities have occurred and at the end of the day (and direct the children to assist);

oInteract with the children and treat them equally;

Supervise and participate in activities with the children; staff should be actively or passively engaged with children at all times;

Assist children with homework;

Distribute snacks to children;

Lead by example in treating others with respect;

Work effectively and professionally with co-workers;

Effectively communicate with parents as they drop off/pick up children; greet them when they arrive, acknowledge when they leave.

Verify that all children (irrespective of age) are signed in/out of program;

Bring all concerns or problems (from parents, members and/or staff) to theattention of the Director of School Age Services;

Work your scheduled shifts; call your supervisor at least 2 hours in advance if you will be absent or late.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 16 years of age;

Must be able to focus full attention on children at all times;

Previous childcare experience strongly preferred, as is knowledge of first aid;

Desire to workpatiently with diverse groups of children is essential;

Must exhibit professional presentation; self-motivated; exhibit high energy and a positive attitude; good interpersonal skills; good organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment includes working with children in both indoor/outdoor settings.Physical requirements may include walking, running, bending, stretching and lifting children.
