Principal Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate regular meetings for the Kesher Garden Advisory Committee to fulfill the vision and map to the SJCCs Strategic Plan, as well as provide updates about structural and maintenance considerations, partnerships, events and calendaring.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with gardeners to share lessons, best practices, garden observations (animal life, safety, seasonal growing tips, etc.).
  • Nurture an effective garden culture.
  • Offer consultation to garden users: staff, p-patchers, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Work in collaboration with the SJCCs Jewish Life and Learning Professional as well as the TZEVET (programming) team to collaborate on creating programs, events and educational experiences in the garden. Ensure these programs meet the SJCCs mission and map to the SJCCs values, ensuring we reach a wide cross-section of the community as defined in the strategic plan. Ensure excellence in content and implementation and ensure initiatives/programs include relevant, engaging Jewish content. Ensure programmatic opportunities are also provided for participants enrolled in SJCC programs (ECS, Kidstown, Camp and Fitness).
  • Explore, develop, and continue to build partnerships to create innovative, relevant program opportunities with key community partners.
  • Develop a garden planting and maintenance plan; plan garden layout and purchase plants and tools within budget.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of garden features, such as composting, teaching beds, etc.
  • Oversee volunteer program and serve as the lead for the p-patch program.
  • Track metrics for all programs.
  • Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This position supervises volunteers and contract program staff.
    Responsibilities include: planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Level 5: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Founded in 1949, the Stroum JCC is dedicated to the enrichment of life for the Jewish and general community in the greater Seattle area. Membership is open to everyone. The SJCC offers diverse programming which includes community-wide events, a premier Early Childhood School, Parenting Center, summer day camp, school's out program, before- and after-school care, kids and adult sports leagues, activities specifically for adults and seniors, and a variety of social, cultural and recreational programs. Limited low-cost memberships are available for youth programs, the Parenting Center, camps and league sports, and senior and social programs.

    The SJCC offers programs on Mercer Island and in Seattle at Temple Beth Am.

    Examples of community-wide events include our annual Hanukkah celebration, Purim Carnival, Sukkot celebration and Second Night Passover Seder.

    Mercer Island Campus

    The Mercer Island SJCC campus has served the Jewish and general community since 1968. This location includes a fitness center, racquetball courts, indoor running track, gymnasium and indoor swimming pool. This location also has an auditorium, a children's library, kitchen, classrooms, and meeting rooms.

    More than 10,000 people pass through the doors of the SJCC Mercer Island campus each year and more than 200 children are enrolled in its infant, toddler, preschool, and kindergarten programs. Each quarter, the SJCC offers programs ranging from swimming lessons to parenting lectures and yoga classes. The J offers transportation to and from several Mercer Island and east side elementary schools for its before- and after-school program. Summer camps include arts, sports, drama, teen adventure, and traditional Jewish day camps with transportation available.

    Our auditorium, rooms and kitchen are available for rental groups, including birthday parties.

    More than 100 children are enrolled in infant, toddler, and preschool programs. Each quarter, the SJCC offers programs at its Seattle campus ranging from parenting lectures and Krav Maga fitness classes to family holiday events. The SJCC Seattle offers an after-school care program.
