Principal Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The P.E. Instructor for Exceptional Students is responsible for creating and delivering individualized physical education instruction for exceptional students who attend Yellow Wood Academy (YWA).Instruction is either one to one, or in groups of two or three students per instructor.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three month's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Gmail is required.

Certificates and Licenses:CPR, First Aid, WA State background check

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized or unexpected situations.

Physical Demands:To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear, walk, move with agility in order to instruct students.The incumbent may be required to carry materials weighing up to 25 lbs.

Environmental Conditions: The work is typically performed in an indoor gym/fitness center environment, where the noise level is moderate to loud.Work may also be performed outdoors where noise level is moderate to loud and conditions may include rough, slippery, or uneven surfaces.

Located on Mercer Island, the J offers a variety of programs and activities for everyone from newborns to seniors. The J is home to an Early Childhood School, a newly remodeled state-of-the-art auditorium, an upgraded Fitness Center, an indoor pool, and more.

We host a variety of parenting classes and weekly Tot Shabbat programs for our youngest members and their parents. School-aged kids enjoy our Kidstown before and after school care, take sports and arts classes, spend their summers at SJCC Summer Camp, and become J Explorers. Adults can join a sports league or a book club, attend events in the Kesher Garden, swim laps in the pool, or work out in our Fitness Center. Seniors learn to play bridge, join fitness classes, and attend our popular cultural arts events.
