Principal Responsibilities:

The Director of People & Culture will be focused on developing the vision, priorities, and plan to improve the quality of our employee experience, to create a more collaborative, learning culture and to deeply engage employees across the organization in the values, goals and mission of JCC Greater Boston. This role will help us reach our goal of making JCC Greater Boston an energizing, inspiring and supportive place to work.

This individual, with the support of a cross-functional working group, will have the opportunity to lead in the development and implementation of a set of strategic practices and systems to improve overall employee engagement, training and coaching support, recruitment and workforce planning practices, performance management systems and internal communication. This role will also support the day-to-day needs of managers through management coaching, professional development offerings, workforce planning, on-boarding support, individual goal-setting and recruitment. This role will also help spearhead efforts, with the support of the Technology department, to streamline and modernize key processes like performance management, on-boarding, recruitment, open enrollment and time & attendance through technology solutions.

This role will work within the Human Resources team which currently supports all Human Resources efforts, including employee relations, on-boarding, payroll and benefits and performance management for the ~400 year-round staff and ~600 seasonal staff at JCC Greater Boston. This individual will report directly to the Chief Finance and Administrative Officer and will work in close partnership with the Director of Human Resources.

Employee Engagement

With the support of the working group, create a culture of trust, collaboration and learning by designing and implementing strategies that focus on developing employee strengths, encouraging cross-divisional work and using data to inform decision-making.

Deepen engagement by collaboratively designing and leading initiatives that allow employees to engage with and learn from each other across departments, including but not limited to, organizing staff meetings, staff celebrations and other staff-oriented events.

Ground employees in JCC Greater Boston's mission and vision by evolving a framework for core values and using them to help create cultural norms, celebrate accomplishments, manage performance, support priority setting, and decision-making, and inform day-to-day management.

Promote diversity, equity and inclusion by ensuring a safe and inclusive working environment, embedding these values throughout JCC Greater Boston's HR practices and serving as a model of inclusive leadership practice.

Create alignment between JCC Greater Boston's core values and our HR practice by assessing our current policies and procedures and making recommendations as appropriate.

Training & Coaching

Develop stronger management skills and practice throughout the organization; through on-going training and coaching, support managers in establishing effective supervisory relationships and leading their teams in alignment with JCC Greater Boston's core values.

Make all new staff feel welcomed by expanding on the current on-boarding system to provide new employees with the basic foundational knowledge needed to work at JCC Greater Boston and to support managers in developing function specific on-boarding and near-term goal setting.

Inspire a culture of growth by creating professional development opportunities and leadership pathways for staff including developing a set of core competencies that are aligned with core values.

Promote goal-based performance and cross-functional collaboration by redesigning and overseeing a system for effective performance management and cross-functional planning that is aligned with organizational outcomes, values and core competencies.

Drive toward organizational strategic goals and improve employee performance by leading organization through employee performance review and individual goal-setting processes in alignment with annual planning and priority setting process.

Recruiting & Workforce Planning

Build a highly competent and committed workforce by developing organizational systems, trainings and supports to scaffold managers in their recruitment and workforce planning efforts.

Simplify the recruitment process by optimizing sourcing and selection practices through technology-based solutions and caring for day-to-day recruitment activities including support in developing job descriptions, posting roles, organization of career fairs and initial screening of resumes for year-round staff.

Maximize organizational effectiveness and efficiency by advising and influencing organization leaders on proper staffing, organizational structure, and people related processes and efficiencies. Develop work-force planning framework for use in annual planning and succession planning.

Increase JCC Greater Boston's ability to attract and retain staff by designing and implement a clear and competitive compensation structure (including benefits) and make recommendations for policies and procedures to determine salary increases, promotions, and other compensation decisions.

Internal Communication

Working with the marketing department and senior leadership, as well as the cross-functional working group, ensure staff are consistently and effectively engaged as members of the JCC Greater Boston community by developing a proactive and robust internal communication systems in collaboration with marketing and senior management.

Increase operational efficacy and employee self-service opportunities by recommending and implementing effective HR and communication technologies.

Build a knowledge-base and promote a culture of learning regarding effective HR practices by creating a set of HR metrics - including employee data, employment status, diversity, retention and turnover, engagement, and performance - for regular reporting and benchmarking.

Minimum Qualifications:

7 to 10 years of related experience with emphasis on talent development, talent management, organizational development, and/or recruitment preferred.

A Bachelor's degree; Master's degree and/or professional certification (e.g. SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP) preferred.

Strong connection to the values and mission of JCC Greater Boston.

Experience working with organizational leaders to set a vision around talent and engagement activities.

Demonstrated desire to seek understanding of others' perspectives and to build relationships through collaboration; proven record of being open, responsive and approachable.

Ability to lead with inquiry, to anticipate questions and to be open to feedback from others.

Proven success in leading organizational change, including ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage against goals.

Ability to communicate and present ideas with clarity and within the context of a larger vision.

Experience in bringing a vision to life through strong project management, implementation and communication skills.

Ability to be flexible and reassess project requirements to ensure a project's ultimate success.

Experience analyzing and interpreting data and presenting it in a meaningful, actionable way for stakeholders.

Ability to take initiative, be proactive and always remain solution-oriented.

Ability to act decisively, to use data to drive decision-making and to know when to seek guidance.
