Principal Responsibilities:

The Mandel Jewish Community Center seeks applicants for its Director of Early Childhood position. A member of the senior management team and reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Early Childhood is a strategic thinker that develops and implements a vision of excellence in early childhood education that adheres to best practices as outlined by State regulatory agencies and is responsible for the business strategy of the Early Childhood program including the development of profitable pricing models and budget oversight. The Director has direct responsibility for the Preschool, Family Place, Playland Summer Camp, and the Early Childhood Educational Garden. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the recruitment of new families and retention of current families to maintain an at capacity program year round.
  • Strengthen and enhance the culture of the Early Childhood department based in Conscious Discipline.
  • Recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate teaching and camp staff and outside program contractors.
  • Create age appropriate curriculums interwoven with Jewish themes including Jewish and secular holiday celebrations and family programs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with preschool families, including a strong communication system.
  • Cultivate community partnerships with schools and other outside agencies. Participate in early childhood meetings in the community, i.e., JECC, DJFS.
  • Serves as the management staff liaison for Early Childhood Advisory Committee of the Mandel JCC Board.
  • Identify fundraising and grant opportunities to support current and future preschool programming.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education and/or family development (Master's degree is preferred), five years of early childhood teaching experience, and three years of experience managing an early childhood program or child care center are required. Demonstrated financial management skills, the ability to execute short and long term planning and program development, strong organization skills and attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills are also required.
