Principal Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for meeting immediate and ongoing needs of campers and their families. Must provide strong visionary, creative and thoughtful leadership to all areas of Camp business and operations. Supervises many components of the recruitment efforts for new campers, and implements a robust plan to ensure a smooth experience for first time campers and their families.


Works with the EKC Director to implement and enhance EKC's 3-year Strategic Plan.

In partnership with the Camp Director, develops a robust internal culture that fosters creativity and "ruach" (spirit) among campers and motivates staff to explore new opportunities and programs.

Manages the day-to-day responsibilities of the camper care professionals through a collaborative model that inspires skill enhancement, coaching/counseling, staff development and high performing teams.

Leads Staff Care program; serves as primary support person for staff in addressing their needs and concerns both while camp is in session and during the off-season.

Develops, updates and implements a vigorous camper recruitment plan focused on attracting new campers, maximizing camper retention and expanding into new geographic markets.

Executes a best-in-class system of camper care focused on identifying potential challenges across the camper population, proactive and timely communication with families regarding camper issues and appropriate behavioral management policies and procedures.

Leads the creation and implementation of EKC's plan to become more inclusive and accommodating for campers with hidden disabilities.

Facilitates the annual process of bunking/cabin assignment for campers and communicates with families as appropriate to identify successful placements for a great summer experience.

Provides direction and support for the Gesher Program, including selection and training of staff

Works collaboratively with other JCC professionals as needed to support a variety of responsibilities.

Attends a variety of professional development events, including, but not limited to JCCA National and Regional meetings, ACA Tri-State annual conferences, etc.

Ability to adapt to change and consider new approaches.

Ability to drive the implementation of programmatic and organizational development strategies that will support the agency's mission, goals and objectives.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and gain their trust and respect.

Possesses the ability to consider both the strategic and tactical aspects of decisions.

Exceptional leadership skills with a track record of cascading important skills to direct reports and building an engaged, dynamic team.

Ability and desire to be innovative around all areas of camp.

Knowledge of current trends in Jewish camping and youth engagement.

Proactive and creative in overcoming obstacles and resource constraints.

Strong communication, administration and organizational skills.

Good listener who is open to new ideas and acts decisively once information is gathered.

Ability to build strong relationships and work with multiple constituencies, including EKC staff, community leaders and volunteers and campers and their families.

Possesses capabilities to either fundraise or materially support fundraising efforts.

Possesses a commitment to Jewish life and the Jewish community.

Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of the American Camp Association.

Actively supports and participates in continuous intra-departmental and agency-wide quality improvement processes. "Everyone, Every Day, Closer to Better."

Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as required.

Ability to perform other related duties, as needed and/or required.

Minimum Qualifications:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.Frequently he/she is required to sit.The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, hospitality, Jewish studies or social work is required, advanced degree preferred; with at least 5 years of professional experience in camping services.

Must be able to obtain ACT 33/34, FBI clearances and mandated reporter training.
