Summary

The sprawling Dave and Mary Alper JCC on the Jay Morton-Levinthal Campus lies in the heart of the Miami suburb of Kendall. Convenient and accessible, the Alper JCC provides opportunities for the Jewish community and all south Miami-Dade County residents to enjoy recreational, educational, cultural and social activities. The mission of the Alper JCC is to preserve and strengthen the South Dade Jewish community by providing programs and services that are rooted in and promote Jewish values, ethics and traditions and that meet the social, cultural, recreational and educational needs of South Dade's Jews. The JCC seeks a CEO who is an energetic, creative, and passionate leader; a professional who possesses excellent strategic and management skills with a proven track record in financial management and community building. The CEO will build on the successes of the past while enabling the JCC to enter a new era in meeting current and future opportunities. The CEO must be skilled at developing and leading a staff team as well as a cadre of devoted volunteer leaders.

The CEO will be a warm and engaging leader who is accessible and listens to all viewpoints, demonstrates confidence and a positive approach. The CEO must be a highly accomplished relationship builder, comfortable with all levels of constituencies from the most seasoned lay leaders to new young leadership, professional staff colleagues and those not yet engaged. A forward thinking, energetic individual, the CEO will promote a culture of innovation, drive the key businesses of the JCC and be a change agent to create on-going excitement and excellence for the JCC in the community.

Presents Visionary and Strategic Leadership

The CEO will promote an all-encompassing and compelling vision that captures the energy of the JCC and represents the strategic planning and priorities as determined by the Board, as well as carves out a path for a more robust, engaged and involved community going forward. The CEO will actively engage with other Jewish and general community organizations, working to support existing collaborative programs and to envision new ways to work together. The CEO must see the big picture - managing current issues while thinking long term.

Proven Ability in Fundraising and Resource Development

The CEO must engage and steward donors, and seek gifts of significance. Entrepreneurial and attuned to donor interests and concerns, the CEO will direct cutting edge practices in donor development to enhance and improve the community's potential. Highly visible in the community, the CEO will reach out and cultivate new potential donors at all levels

Exhibits Skill in Fiscal Management

The CEO must plan for financial stability and sustainability in partnership with the CFO and the finance and audit committees. A key to this is having the knowledge of financial systems, the ability to establish and maintain a realistic budget, and the aptitude to use timely financial statements to guide and oversee agency performance.

Demonstrates Skill in Operational Management

The CEO provides leadership to all aspects of the JCC operations and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the JCC. This includes an understanding of the physical plant, technical support systems and running the various businesses of the JCC. Visibility and responsiveness to members is a strong value. The CEO will be decisive in action, adaptable and accountable.

Represents the JCC in the Community

The CEO will work to build effective coalitions, partnerships and collaborations with agencies and organizations in the Jewish and general community. Building a sense of community and raising the profile of the JCC in the greater community is paramount.

Displays Sound Staff Management Skills

The CEO will create a culture of positivity and productivity in the work environment, inspiring, engaging and empowering the professional staff of the JCC. Through selecting, developing and motivating staff, the CEO will foster innovation, teamwork and collaboration to ensure that best practices and cutting edge developments are the norm.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum of a bachelor's degree with 10+ years of strategic leadership and management experience in JCCs, Jewish communal organizations, business, and/or non-profit sectors. An advanced degree is preferred.

A proven record of successfully building trusted relationships with a variety of constituencies and stakeholders, including those of diverse populations.

Understanding of, and successful experience in, all areas of fiscal management, fundraising and financial resource development. A willingness and desire to be personally involved with these efforts is required.

A successful track record of working with a board of directors and understanding the volunteer-professional partnership.

Enthusiasm about the JCC's mission and the ability to inspire others to create a community dedicated to that mission.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

High level of personal and professional integrity.

About the Dave and Mary Alper JCC

Located in sunny, beautiful Miami Florida, the JCC has extensive facilities on a 21.3-acre campus. For fitness enthusiasts, the well-equipped 18,000 sq. ft. Fitness Center is a great place to play racquetball with your family, workout in the fitness center or in one of the many group exercise classes, train with a friend, or swim with a group in the Jr. Olympic pool. There are also seven lit tennis courts, baseball batting cages and a large gymnasium. The Youth and Adult Building, home to a wide selection of adult programs and the childrens department, offers the young and young at heart a place to gather and socialize. The Sablotsky Cultural Arts Center hosts performances for all ages and focuses on bringing quality, renowned Jewish artists, authors, and entertainers for the community to enjoy.

In this location since 1989, the Alper JCC has been and continues to be the Jewish community's central address in south Miami-Dade County. The Alper JCC operates on a $6.5 million annual budget, and owns seven buildings totaling approximately 200,000 sq. ft. that sits prominently on 21.3 acres of land. The Alper JCC currently enjoys 1700 units of membership representing over 6,000 people. The Alper JCC has a talented staff of 75 full-time employees, with committed lay leadership and outstanding programming.

These programs, each recognized for their excellence and commitment to the community, include the superb Quality Counts 5-Star Glen Greenstein Early Childhood Development Center offers families the perfect setting for their children, infants through preschoolers, to grow, learn, and appreciate Jewish heritage. For children and teenagers, the Kids Connection After-School Program provides a structured yet fun environment; and the summer camp gives campers the opportunity to grow and expand their horizons. The Special Needs Program offers a fun, stimulating, and dynamic program for children, teens and adults with cognitive and/or physical disabilities and has been widely recognized for its services as well. In 2017, the Alper JCC was a successful host of the JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest, bringing teen athletes and artists from all over the world to South Miami-Dade County.


About the South Miami-Dade Jewish Community

JCC is located in Kendall, a suburb just south of Miami with a Jewish population of 37,000. It is an educated, culturally diverse, connected, engaged and active community. It is home to 4 different synagogues of all denominations. Jewish day schools are spread throughout Dade County. South Miami-Dade County is a more affordable part of greater Miami and Florida has no state or local taxes. It is a close-knit family-oriented community, with good public schools and many recreational opportunities, great restaurants and shopping and a renowned coffee culture. It is known as the Silicon Valley of the southeast. The JCC has an excellent relationship with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the two other JCCs in greater Miami and the United Way of Miami Dade.
