Principal Responsibilities:


The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC seeks an energetic, passionate, experienced CEO who can engender confidence and engage the resources necessary for financial, operational and programmatic sustainability and growth. The CEO is responsible for helping to shape the strategic direction of the organization, while providing leadership to all aspects of JCC operations. The CEO will have experience in leading staff and boards through organizational change as well as overseeing policy, procedures, facilities, and finance.The successful candidate will be an organized self-starter with experience in growing an organization and energizing a community.

Provides Exemplary Executive Leadership

The CEO will be a warm and engaging leader who is accessible and listens to all viewpoints, demonstrates confidence and a positive approach. The CEO must be a highly accomplished relationship builder, comfortable with all levels of constituencies from the most seasoned lay leaders to new young leadership, professional staff colleagues and those not yet engaged. A forward thinking, energetic individual, the CEO will promote a culture of innovation and growth, drive the key businesses of the JCC and be a change agent to create on-going excitement and excellence for the JCC in the community. The CEO will work closely with the board and key stakeholders to develop, articulate and implement a shared vision, with programs that reflect the unique mission and needs of the Greater Five Towns community.

Proven Ability in Fundraising and Resource Development

The CEO must engage and steward donors, and seek gifts of significance. Entrepreneurial and attuned to donor interests and concerns, the CEO will direct cutting edge practices in donor development and stewardship to enhance and improve the community's potential. Highly visible in the community, the CEO will reach out and cultivate new potential donors at all levels. Particular attention will be paid to capital campaign donors, foundations and grants.

Presents Visionary and Strategic Leadership

The CEO will promote an all-encompassing and compelling vision that captures the energy of the JCC and represents the strategic planning and priorities as determined by the Board, as well as carves out a path for a more robust, engaged and involved community going forward. The CEO will actively engage with other Jewish and general community organizations, working to support existing collaborative programs and to envision new ways to work together. The CEO must see the big picture - managing current issues while thinking long term.

Exhibits Skill in Fiscal Management

The CEO must plan for financial stability and sustainability as well as have an eye towards growth in partnership with the finance staff and the finance committee. A key to this is having the knowledge of financial systems, the ability to establish and maintain a realistic budget, and the aptitude to use timely financial statements to guide and oversee agency performance. The CEO will ensure regular reporting to the Board and to funders and will maintain the financial integrity of the financial operations of the JCC.

Additional Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities include understanding the complexities in the operational management of several facilities; leading, supervising and evaluating a high-performing senior management team and staff at all levels; board and volunteer engagement including the cultivation of future leaders; guiding the board and committees to shape and focus vision and planning; serving as a key and visible spokesperson and representative of the JCC out in the community; facilitate the development of new programs and services that meet the emerging needs of the community, while ensuring and evaluating current programs in order to maintain high quality, fiscal accountability and alignment with the JCC's mission.


  • Applicants must have a minimum of 7-10 years of significant practical experience as a successful senior executive in the non-profit and/or Jewish communal sector with a record of achievement in organizational leadership and growth. A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree in Jewish communal service, non-profit management, business administration or related fields is desired.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading a $6+ million enterprise with multiple facilities, several businesses, and more than 125 employees.
  • Knowledge of and a passion for Jewish communal structures and issues and their relationship to Israel; a commitment to enhancing Jewish life, culture and values.
  • Understanding of, and successful experience in, all areas of fiscal management, fundraising and financial resource development. A proven track record and the willingness and desire to be personally involved with efforts to cultivate, solicit and steward major donors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to present oneself in a manner that garners trust and enthusiasm and inspires volunteer and professional leadership. Ability to model and maintain high personal, ethical and professional standards.
  • Strong budgeting and financial acumen required.
  • Candidates from the Greater New York area will be given preference.
