Mission: The JCC is a welcoming, inclusive gathering place where we enrich the greater community by offering social, recreational, educational and cultural opportunities guided by Jewish values. A non-sectarian community center, we're located in Tarrytown, New York.

People of all ages, faiths and backgrounds come together at the JCC to build community, meet new friends and celebrate together. We are home to a year-round preschool, after-school, summer and vacation camps, clubs and activities, fitness classes and more. Our outstanding programming includes evening arts and culture events, as well as musical performances and joyful holiday celebrations. Currently, we have a $3M operating budget, 16 full time and 100 permanent and seasonal part time staff and serve more than 3500 people annually. We anticipate doubling our staff in the next year and serving 10,000-12,000 individuals annually.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Harold and Elaine Shames JCC on the Hudson (JCC) is at an exciting and pivotal moment in its history and we are looking for a visionary, dynamic Executive Director to lead the agency in achieving our ambitious goals for the 21st century.

The JCC is in the process of dramatically increasing its footprint, both physically with the construction of a new 75,000 sq. ft. facility and by providing more comprehensive cultural, educational, spiritual, social and recreational services and programming to the Westchester River Towns community.

We are looking for an Executive Director with the passion, energy and leadership to drive the JCC to the next level. Were looking for someone with a proven track record in growing a successful, non-profit agency into a larger one and positioning its role in the community. If you are a roll up your sleeves self-starter, capable of keeping many balls in the air, with a proven success record, then this may be the opportunity you have been looking for.

Minimum Qualifications:

Leadership:

  • Serve as the JCCs chief executive officer, reporting to the JCC Board of Directors and providing strategic, visionary leadership over all operational aspects of the JCC.

Strategic Planning:

  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, shape the short and long term goals for the agency and devise the strategic plan to achieve those goals.

Development:

  • Grow and diversify the agencys funding base by playing a key role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
  • Set the development agenda, identifying and nurturing opportunities for catalytic growth.
  • Serve as the primary external representative of the agency; engage stakeholders and the community to raise its profile, grow its influence, and attract resources.

Financial Management:

  • Direct a multi-year budget planning process that supports the strategic vision.
  • Working closely with the CFO and senior staff, prepare the yearly budget and manage tightly to top and bottom line targets.

Team Management:

  • Attract, develop and retain a best-in-class team that aligns with the JCCs goals and produces exceptional program quality. Bring out the best efforts of direct reports and community volunteers.

Program and Facilities Oversight:

  • Oversee talented senior staff to deliver outstanding programs, including preschool, youth camps and afterschool, fitness and aquatics, special needs, and events, arts and cultural performances, etc. Guide programming to maximize community participation and financial goals.
  • Oversee operations of the facility including strategic investment.

Community Relations and Partnerships:

  • Maintain and strengthen our relationship with our affiliate umbrella organization, UJA-Federation of NY.
  • Represent the JCC to various stakeholders, affiliated and partnering organizations and the general River Towns community.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with leaders of other area Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, foundations, and businesses to deepen community ties.

Board:

  • Work with the Chairman to elicit the best thinking and contributions of each Board member. In conjunction with the Chairman, oversee all Board committees.

REQUIREMENTS

Key Qualifications:

  • Innovative mindset and history of delivering financial, organizational, and team growth.
  • Ability to inspire teamwork and confidence and have a network to draw from for a range of critical resources.
  • Minimum of seven years running and managing a non-profit agency with a similar culture in a senior leadership position.
  • Prior experience managing budgets of $4M+ and proven track record of sound fiscal management.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts and grants from individuals and foundations.
  • Strong personnel management skills including demonstrated ability to develop and retain talent.
  • A vision of a vibrant, diverse, inclusive River Towns Jewish community.
