Principal Responsibilities:
The Director, Arts & Culture is responsible for overseeing the administration and successful execution of an integrated Jewish cultural arts program. The role includes planning and managing all theatre programming and operations (including theatrical shows, concerts, special engagements and the annual film series), overseeing youth arts education programs, and other related initiatives. The successful incumbent will keep a balance among three major areas of focus: artistic, entrepreneurial/business, and cultural/mission.Ability to focus on creating positive revenue streams and cultivating both internal and community partnerships is vital. A key responsibility is engaging the Jewish community through targeted program strategies to increase participation in cultural programming, enhance program satisfaction, and inspire philanthropic support. The position requires creativity, strong leadership, business acumen, attention to detail, and the ability to develop and implement innovative initiatives that keep the programs dynamic and meet a diverse range of cultural interests.
Minimum Qualifications:
Essential Functions
- Create balanced theatre season (theatre shows, concerts, special engagements and films), incorporate feedback, Jewish content & ticket sales viability. Partner within KC Arts community.
- Identify areas for programmatic innovation/growth; work with staff to implement new programs in a cost-effective manner.
- Effectively oversee theatre operations, including box office, concessions and behind the scenes.
- Fundraise/oversee donor relations for Arts & Culture patrons, develop/staff lay committee; oversee Customer Experience
- Oversee all [youth] arts education programming, including Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
- Work with The J's marketing team to leverage all assets to maximize theatre attendance, while supporting cross-marketing efforts to promote membership acquisition and retention.
- Create, manage, and maximize revenue and community engagement opportunities beyond the published theatre season (rentals, community events, etc.)
- Plan, implement, monitor and adhere to budgets to meet department and organizational goals. Includes researching and presenting market trends, reviewing financial statements, and monitoring discrepancies.
- Partner with other Jewish organizations to foster collaboration and support "Big J" initiatives.
- Capability and commitment to supervisory role evidenced by performance management, coaching, communicating, etc.
- Supervisor Accountability for HR functions such as required: 1) paperwork, 2) training, 3) employee documentation, etc.
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in arts management or related field
- Strong performing arts knowledge/background
- Experience in handling multiple budgets and proactively managing to those budgets
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, including demonstrated self-awareness and ability to read verbal and non-verbal cues
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example and with empathy
- Proven track record of successfully managing/serving multiple constituencies
- Experience in marketing cultural arts
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Familiarity with fundraising and donor relations
- Established ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Proven creative problem-solving skills
- Track record of successfully leading a diverse team of professionals and volunteers
- Proven ability to navigate unexpected/difficult circumstances with a steady demeanor
Salary:
$75,000 - $85,000
