Job Title: Director of Aquatics
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
JOB SUMMARY
The JCC Mid-Westchester (JCCMW) is seeking a Director of Aquatics, who will design, lead and implement
strategies to effectively engage and support a positive community experience in and out of the pool. The aquatics
center at the JCCMW is essential to the history of the organization, and the current aquatic program offerings are
exciting and diverse. The pool is open 7 days a week for 90+ hours, and is often the first and last space open for
patrons each day.
The Director of Aquatics will lead all facets of supervision and management for our recreational and competitive
swim programs (Stingrays, a 115-person swim team). The director will oversee all aquatics staff, including program
manager, coaches, instructors, and lifeguards. Their goal will be to grow the aquatics programs through building
interest and recruitment efforts, marketing, innovative program ideas, and strong feedback.
The Director of Aquatics will work closely with other program directors to ensure innovative and quality
programming and a seamless experience for our community members, from infants through older adults. They
will also work closely with the Senior Director of Member Engagement to support our members who utilize the
pool for lap swim and classes. They will ensure aquatics programs provide best-in-class community experience,
reputation, impact, and future growth opportunities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The JCC Mid-Westchester is a 7-acre campus with over 100 programs and 250 staff, serving thousands of
community members per year. The Director of Aquatics is a critical role that ensures every touchpoint with the
JCCMW is strong and thoughtful. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program Leadership
- Foster a welcoming climate and seamless experience for all patrons, visitors, guests, students, staff
through great communication, staff development, and leadership.
- Create and implement all aquatics programming for youth, adults, and families in the JCCMW pool and
related areas 7 days a week. This includes daytime, afterschool, evening, weekend, school break, and
summer.
- Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill community needs.
There is currently a robust set of programs that can be grown to serve additional individuals, as well as
opportunities to pilot new activities.
- Respond in a positive and timely manner to all member and community inquiries. Write emails, letters,
and newsletters that communicate about the aquatics programs. Prepare aquatics reports for the Board of
Directors.
- Coordinate with the marketing team in the development and distribution of program information, via
website, flyers, social media, email, and more. May organize and schedule program registrations.
- Purchase and maintain equipment, parts and supplies as needed. Coordinate and schedule equipment
maintenance and repairs.
- Develop and monitor aquatics program budget to meet fiscal objectives and take appropriate action to
correct variances.
- Conduct data entry and analysis. Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of
and participation in the program.
Aquatics Team Staffing
- Develop a comprehensive staffing calendar that ensures appropriate supervisory coverage for the 90+
hours the pool is open weekly.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel (lifeguards, swim instructors, coaches,
coordinators, and manager) as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to
motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensure effective practice implementation for all aquatics operations.
- Ensure compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Monitor daily
operations to adhere to all health and safety standards and policies. Ensure paperwork, from licenses to
certifications, are all up-to-date.
- Manage and ensure completion of all required training for self and staff.
Other Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in fundraising activities and special events.
- Develop and nurture mutually-beneficial partnerships with fellow aquatics centers.
- Utilize various systems, including CRM system for registration, payment, and tracking; room reservation
system; google workspace, and the website.
- Other duties as assigned by the management team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
include movement within an office environment. The role requires the ability to write by hand and use a keyboard
to perform general office functions. Also requires the ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously.
Visual acuity is needed for detailed work, and computer use. The ability to sit, stand and walk for extended
periods of time is also a requirement.

SALARY
$83-86,000/annually. The JCCMW offers generous benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance

Minimum Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or 7+ years of professional experience in a related field/fields.
- 3+ years of supervision experience.
- Communicates in a clear and sophisticated manner (verbal, written, presentation) commensurate with this
key, cross-departmental role.
- Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to adapt to changing business landscapes.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards; natural affinity to detail but with ability to balance
perfection with common sense.
- Models relationship-building, professionalism and team-building skills in all interactions with staff and
members of the community.

Salary:
$75,000 - $85,000
