Principal Responsibilities:

The Group Fitness Manager (Manager) oversees a robust and engaging group fitness program at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. The Manager serves as a member of the Health & Wellness Leadership Team, agency, and works closely with the maintenance and marketing departments. The Manager follows fitness trends, creates new formats, and responds to the feedback provided by our membership. They provide excellence in customer service, programming, safety, and cleanliness. The Manager must be detail oriented, organized, flexible and able to handle multiple projects at one time. They know that Group Fitness Instructors are the face of the fitness department and strive to create a culture of fun and passion.

Duties and Responsibilities

Programming & Coordination

  • Analyze market needs, create and adapt programming to meet the needs and demands of current and prospective members
  • Create programming and special events that appeal to non-members to assist in boosting membership
  • Create and execute new formats, such as a member group fitness class to foster the creation of subcommunities
  • Oversee all aspects of communication of group fitness programming including maintaining and updating schedules, web, and print marketing as well as communicating changes to members and staff
  • Respond to all member concerns, suggestions, and complaints in a timely, professional, and consistent manner (24-hour response time via email and/or phone).
  • Continually audit and evaluate all classes and programs, solicit feedback, review and analyze results
  • Prepare statistical reports pertaining to group fitness usage

Supervision

  • Recruit, supervise, coach and evaluate all instructors and other part-time staff as needed
  • Promote professional work environment through character development by modeling JCC standards and values
  • Monitor and facilitate certifications and continuing education (CEU) opportunities
  • Assist in finding coverage for instructors when they are unable to find coverage for classes
  • Complete payroll for group fitness department and programs

Facilities

  • Ensure Group Fitness facilities are clean, well-maintained, and relevant to providing excellent programming
  • Facilities managed include group studio, mind body studio, cycling studio, and alternate locations at times such as gymnasium or outdoor locations
  • Purchase and maintain appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Work cooperatively with outside services to maintain and repair equipment as needed

Budget

  • Participate in the development of the group fitness budget with supervisor
  • Work with supervisor to set monthly income program goals and expenses
  • Keep accurate records and statistics of performance and usage to make educated decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications & Specialized Skill

  • B.S. degree in Health and Fitness or a related field of study
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory and related work experience
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification
  • Current Nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Salesforce Experience a plus
  • Strong communicational, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to train and lead staff

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisade works to safeguard the health of employees and their families; members and visitors; and the community at large during the pandemic and have thus instituted a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy. This policy is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities and should be interpreted in alignment with applicable law. Salary:

$35,000 - $45,000
