The Weinstein JCC is hiring for the position of Director of Membership. This position provides strategic direction and strong managerial leadership to effectively boost and retain membership, program participation and financial support for the Weinstein Jewish Community Center, while enhancing the Center's overall community image and profile. This position is responsible for delivering revenue growth from the creation and execution of membership retention, acquisition, and events and rental income strategies. The Director has supervisory responsibility for the membership Department, including Front Desk Operations, as well as the Events and Rental function.
This person will take the lead in attracting and welcoming new member prospects to the Center and guides a systematic process of recruitment, engagement and retention of members. The position requires strong analytical, supervisory and communication skills and the ability to effectively build customer service, and great listening skills with members and staff. This individual has the responsibility of overseeing the membership and rentals/events budget. This exempt position reports to the Chief Operation Officer.
Responsibilities:
Membership Engagement/Acquisition/Retention:
- Develop clear, consistent, and effective strategies for attracting new members. Work in collaboration with the marketing team and other key departments, for identifying, reaching and selling to all targeted market segments and community groups.
- Develop clear, consistent and effective strategies for membership retention. Work in collaboration with the marketing team and other key departments, for retaining members, including regular contact with members at risk and exit interviewing those who resign.
- Develop and maintain value-added member benefits for the WJCC membership.
- Ensure members receive courteous, thoughtful, and timely responses to inquiries and issues, and work with direct supervisor and all Department Heads to solve problems, as appropriate.
- Design and conduct tours of the facility, and train and coordinate staff to do the same effectively.
- Solicit and analyze feedback from members and prospects as expressed in surveys and usage.
- Coordinate Open Houses, Membership Appreciation events and other membership and community related promotions.
- Communicate constructively and consistently about the value of WJCC membership.
- Strong focus on customer service and developing the staff to deliver that culture in all that they do.
Operations and Reporting:
- Hire, train and manage front desk Customer Service Associates and Managers on Duty to ensure effective coverage for all facility operation hours, including scheduled internal and external events.
- Maintain a complex staffing schedule including all shift assignments necessary for building opening and closures with continuous changes.
- Use accurate forecasting methods to develop and maintain Membership budgets.
- Oversee Silver Sneakers and Renew Active month-end participation reports.
- Oversee the membership record keeping through Quattro and utilize the data to promote sales and retention by working closely with the Senior Director of Marketing.
- Provide detailed monthly membership statistics and demographics as needed.
- Responsible for data and metrics and working within the agency database of all membership related pieces.
Community Engagement:
- Attend and/or ensure the Weinstein Jewish Community Center's presence at community events to promote programs and membership.
- Serve as the contact person for requests for WJCC information by local agencies, organizations and other JCC's.
- Increase the visibility and understanding of the work and mission of the WJCC in the community.
Additional Oversight Responsibilities:
- Oversee Event and Rentals function, including establishment of basic contractual terms, review/approval of proposed contracts and/or modifications and appropriate staff coverage levels.
- Partner with the Event and Rental Manager, in collaboration with the marketing department, to promote WJCC rental spaces and drive revenue growth.
- Review and manage all membership scholarship applicants and approve/deny allocation of budgeted funds awarded to recipients.
- Preform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
- A proven, progressive track record with sales responsibilities.
- Non-profit development experience; knowledge of the worlds of fitness, recreation, community centers or related fields are a plus.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Possess a learning mindset and collaborative/positive attitude.
- Excellent verbal, written and technical skills.
- Outstanding personal rapport and ability to work with the public, including conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Possess creativity, and leadership abilities.
- Ease in working with databases, budgets, and computer software skills.
- Knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions is preferred but not required.
- Sales and supervisory experience.
- Highly organized self-starter.
Salary:
$65,000 - $75,000
