SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR - UPTOWN CAMPUS
New Orleans JCC
5342 St. Charles Ave
New Orleans, LA 70115

Principal Responsibilities:

We are hiring! Connect with the community through openings in our Summer Camp!

Summer camp is not a one-way street, focused only on the campers' experience; it can be equally as worthwhile for staff members at all stages of life's journey. A job at camp will provide you with initial training, ongoing development, and immediate feedback on a variety of transferable skills that you can immediately apply to your family life, school situations, workplace, and beyond.

We are highly focused on building a community here at the JCC while balancing our need to provide consistency in our supervision and programming for the many children who join us every summer.

HEAD COUNSELOR

Head Counselors are the senior leaders of each group, which includes assigned campers and staff, and play a critical role in safety and security, parent communication, behavior management, and overall keeping everyone on schedule. They are the "experts" on the needs and nuances of the campers in their group and must be comfortable directing and supporting staff of varying ages and skill levels while engaging and playing with campers directly. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age with some college experience and have at least two years of experience with children OR four or more years of camping experience. This position reports directly to the Unit Head or Assistant Camp Directors (dependent on your assigned group) and must commit to the full nine week camp season.

COUNSELOR

Counselors are the backbone of our camper's experience, spending time at work actively engaging with and guiding JCC campers throughout their day. They are positive, responsible, trustworthy, caring, patient, engaged, active, upbeat, and most of all, kind. Our camp counselors set the standard for behavior and involvement throughout the whole camp, and applicants for this position should be prepared to exemplify all of these qualities throughout the entire summer. Primary responsibilities include: assisting the Head Counselor with daily activities and conflict management, paying close attention to camper dynamics, adding to camp morale and spirit, and reporting all incidents and important observations to the Head Counselor. They must engage in specialist activities, actively participate in swim time, aid lifeguards in ensuring pool safety, and remain vigilant of campers and their surroundings at all times. Applicants must be at least entering 11th grade and above. This position reports directly to the Head Counselor.
