Principal Responsibilities:

The Club J and Camp Chai Assistant Director will help the Director of Camping Services with the planning and day-to-day operations of Camp Chai. He or she will be a positive role model, flexible, and have a positive attitude throughout each day. The Assistant Director will Train and supervise Unit Heads, Sr. Counselors and Jr. Counselors and will report to the Director of Camping Services. The Assistant Director will create programs for camp including daily schedules, special days, field trips and overnights. The Assistant Director will help the Youth & Teen Director with the Club J after-school program, additional youth enrichment programs, family programs and teen specific programs throughout the school year. This position is classified as a Full-Time, Exempt and is benefits eligible. The Jewish Community Center is an EOE (equal opportunity employer).

YOUTH & TEEN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive the JCC bus and pick-up students from local elementary school and bring them to the JCC for Club J after-school program.

Help supervise students and part-time staff during the Club J after-school program.

Create a routine of programs for students to participate in during Club J after-school program

Create new enrichment programs for all youth to participate in during after school hours

Assist in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of Club J staff

Assist in the creating and execution of all Club J break programs including Pre and Post Camp, Schools Day out, Thanksgiving Camp, Winter Break Camp, Spring Break Camp and Passover Break Camp

Create and execute new Saturday evening Sunday Youth Programs at the JCC

Assist in JCC Family Engagement Programs

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

CAMP RESPONSIBILITIES DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR:

Assist in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of camp staff

Assist in the planning and execution of the staff training week

Develop and run the CIT (Counselor in Training) Program

Assist in the recruitment of campers.

Develop relationships with returning and new camp families throughout the entire year including meeting with parents about their individual camp questions.

Assist in the creation of the daily programming schedule

Assist in the creation of the summer calendar including field trips, theme days, special events and special guests

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

CAMP RESPONSIBILITES DURING THE SUMMER:

Protect the health and safety (emotional and physical) of all campers while at camp and on any trips

Provide experiences that promote individual and group growth

Serve as a role model for young children while emphasizing Jewish values

Supervise Unit Heads

Supervise Jr. and Sr. Counselors

Coordinate parent communications with Director of Camping Services

Coordinate with Program Director for schedules and activities

Assist in curation of camp culture that reflects the ruach (spirit) of Camp Chai including, opening, closing and shabbat.

Create and train counselors on programs they can run for their individual tribes.

Coordinate with specialists on their programs, roles in different programs, and on camp calendar.

Assist with special programs, problem solving and other duties

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

It is expected the Club J and Camp Chai Assistant Director will be a team player as part of the JCC Camp Staff. He/she is expected to be aware of the JCC Mission Statement and work within the frameworks of that mission. Responsibilities of the job may be changed as the needs of the JCC and/or community change.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate Degree

Minimum one year of experience at Camp Chai or two years of equivalent experience

Ability to cooperate with others

Ability to supervise staff

Ability to supervise campers

Strong interpersonal skills

Ability to carry-out daily and special programs

Experience working with children

Demonstrates an energetic and positive attitude

Be dependable and have excellent communication skills

Professional in appearance, manner and tone

Possess an attitude that makes for harmonious cooperation with campers, parents, and other staff

Salary:

$35,000 - $45,000
