Job Summary

The Coordinator of Inclusion and Diversity is responsible for the programming and administration of all aspects of inclusive programming here at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. This is a position that interfaces with all departments and programs including all camp programs. The Coordinator of Inclusion and Diversity and the supporting team will build a positive climate for inclusion, diversity and equity through ongoing assessments, designing, implementing and managing center-based education for staff, families and community members. This position supports the continuum of inclusive programming and services for individuals with disabilities, their families, caregivers and staff that serve them. This is a full-time position who reports to the Director, Adult Learning, Engagement and Development and in collaboration with the Director of the Guttenberg Center for Special Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Summer Programs

In collaboration with the Director of Special Services, codify and institutionalize the required intake process for campers with disabilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact and conduct intake assessments for campers with disabilities and ensure confidentiality of all confidential information and abide by HIPPA regulations
  • In collaboration with the Camp Director approve camper group assignments, recruitment of Inclusion Support Staff, ongoing assessment of inclusion program and communication with families
  • Evaluate effectiveness of inclusion programs in the camp setting
  • Develop Camper Care Plans
  • Develop appropriate resources and materials for identified campers to ensure successful inclusion
  • Supervise camper care advocates, providing training and resources for staff
  • Work in collaboration with JCC staff on ADA Compliance Plans

Center- Wide

Develop and oversee the implementation of center wide, department -based assessment on current state of Inclusion

  • Based on center wide assessments, provide on-going training for staff in diversity, equity and inclusion with an emphasis on disability supports and professional procedures
  • Provide agency wide strategies for implementing accommodations and modifications to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in order to participate in traditional programming
  • Provide direct service as needed to individuals with disabilities in inclusive programming across the JCC including: Circle of Friends in Special Services
  • Supervise assigned Social Work Interns, liaison between the JCC and colleges and universities
  • Run monthly Parent and sibling support groups for special needs population

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's Level degree in a subject related to Developmental Disabilities and/or Social Work
  • Keen understanding and training in the principles of diversity, equity and social justice.
  • Work with the Development Department to identify external funding opportunities and grants
  • Complete all required State DDD professional training modules and meet all state and JCC requirements for hiring

Key Required Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Interreact in a positive manner with others that is respectful
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but collaborate effectively across agency departments and constituencies
  • Develop and prepare training modules and presentations for JCC staff, board and lay leaders
  • Generate effective reports and analyze data
  • Be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with JCC philosophy and goals

Required Education and Experience

  • Masters level degree in a subject related to Developmental Disabilities and/or Social Work
  • Understanding and training in the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.
  • Complete SIFI certification course
