Under the Direction of the Fitness Director, the Assistant Fitness Director develops plans, organizes, and implements programs and services for the MJCC Fitness Department. In the absence of a Director, this position may be responsible for the overall management of the Fitness facilities. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. This is a Full-time, salaried, non-exempt position.

Customer Service
Assists Fitness Director to ensure the facility delivers high quality fitness experience to all members.
Use excellent customer service skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and members.
Continually evaluate and reinforce the level of customer service required by Fitness staff.

Human Resources
Participate in interviews for studio employees and sub-contractors by conducting initial screenings.
Recruit, train, supervise (direct or indirectly) and schedule group exercise instructors and floor staff.
Assist in training of fitness floor employees; enhance skills and growth to benefit the MJCC.
Stay current on industry trends by reading publications and attending continuing education seminars.
Ensure staff members consistently execute the basics in punctuality, dress code compliance, friendliness, and cleanliness.
Fosters a teamwork environment.

Instructional
Be prepared to teach class on a regular basis and fill in as a substitute when needed.
Assume primary responsibilities for the development, implementation and instruction of group exercise classes. Instruct (5-7) classes per week.
Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of all fitness, wellness and rehabilitative programs in accordance with established protocols.
Assist in the delivery of group and individual Fit Plans.

Administrative
Learn to and participate in managing daily studio operations.
Set the Group Exercise schedule, monitor all classes, and track class counts.
Set the schedule for fitness floor.
Suggest equipment and supplies for Group Exercise classes.
Maintain Group Fitness equipment and work areas in clean and orderly manner.
Analyze and evaluate the Group Exercise program on a continual basis making recommendations that will contribute to the success of the fitness center.
Learn to prepare work schedules within agreed upon payroll budgets.
Ensure that the exercise equipment is safe, clean and in proper working order.
Communicate information regarding products, policies, training, and promotions.
Provide guidance and motivation to employees and sub-contractors so they achieve peak productivity and performance.

General
Keep abreast of industry to incorporate into fitness center operations.
Participate in building coverage on a regular basis.
Participate in opening, closing and weekend coverage, as well as daily floor time supervision and fitness center desk coverage (as needed.)
Complete additional responsibilities as required by management.
Attend bi-weekly Management meeting, communicate and follow through from the meetings.
Participate in offering ideas and suggestions to management.
Acts and makes decisions in the best interest of the MJCC.


Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in fitness science or a related area.
1 - 2 years' experience working in a fitness or wellness environment.
Nationally recognized Group fitness certification required and various group fitness disciplines
CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Practical experience in group fitness
Strong customer service skills and an outgoing personality
Excellent communication and verbal skills

Salary:

$35,000 - $45,000
