Principal Responsibilities:
The Head of Racquet Sports at Day Camps @ The J in Stamford, CT is responsible for leading and implementing engaging pickleball and tennis programs for camp participants aged 4-13. This role involves direct instruction, program development, and management of all racquet sports activities as a one-person department.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation
- Design and execute age-appropriate pickleball and tennis programs for campers aged 4-13
- Create fun, engaging learn-to-play sessions for beginners
- Develop skill-focused electives for more advanced young players
- Organize and conduct private lessons and after-camp instruction
Instruction and Coaching
- Provide high-quality instruction in both pickleball and tennis fundamentals
- Adapt teaching methods to suit various age groups within the 4-13 range
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all activities
- Foster a positive, encouraging environment for young learners
Program Management
- Oversee daily operations of the racquet sports program
- Manage equipment inventory and maintenance
- Coordinate court schedules and usage
- Collaborate with other camp staff to integrate racquet sports into the overall camp experience
Communication and Promotion
- Maintain clear communication with campers, parents, and staff regarding program activities and progress
- Promote racquet sports programs to increase participation and enthusiasm
- Provide regular updates to the Director of Athletics on program successes and areas for improvement
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Proven experience in coaching pickleball and tennis, preferably with children aged 4-13
- Strong knowledge of pickleball and tennis rules, techniques, and best practices for youth instruction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children of various ages and skill levels
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Passion for pickleball and tennis is essential
- Experience working in a camp setting is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to demonstrate pickleball and tennis techniques to children
- Capable of standing for extended periods and moving around outdoor courts
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
