The Director of The JCC Preschool at Greenwich Reform Synagogue will oversee a premier satellite school as part of The Vogel Family Center for Early Learning of The Stamford JCC. Located in Cos Cob, CT and serving the Greenwich and Westover communities, this intimately designed learning environment has become known for its quality, care and focus on the child and family's success in their most formative years. This is a full-time, 12-month position and is supervised by the Associate Executive Director of the Stamford JCC and collaborates cooperatively with the Greenwich Reform Synagogue professional team. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
Planning and Administration
Deliver The Stamford JCC's best in class curriculum and school administration techniques to The Preschool @ GRS community.
Provide individualized concierge attention to each child and family in building development plans that align with their goals.
Assist in the development of the Preschool budget in consultation with the AED and JCC leadership, including obtaining approval for all hiring and payroll decisions
Active participation in The Vogel Family Center for Early Learning Leadership Team of The Stamford JCC
Ensure compliance with CT OEC licensing requirements and JCC policies Oversee safety procedures and security practices Curriculum, Programming and Environment
Assist in the development and implementation of The JCC's Early learning program with emphasis on age-appropriate play-based curriculum, based on positive human values and Jewish heritage and culture.
Support the teaching teams in structuring classroom routines and problem-solve any challenges
Create a warm, nurturing and safe environment in which children, parents and teachers are treated with respect
Cultivate and maintain solid parent partnerships through open door, responsive, proactive communication
Evaluate program participation and enrollment trends and implement adjustments as needed
Review student development with teachers and identify appropriate programs/resources to address any issues
Leadership and Personnel
Recruit and hire new teaching staff as needed within annual budget guidelines
Conduct staff orientations and lead monthly team and monthly staff meetings
Prepare written performance evaluations and conduct reviews annually
Provide training opportunities to meet all local and state requirements
Design Professional Development opportunities for staff to develop their expertise
Identify, hire and oversee activity specialists for preschool programs
Ensure that teaching staff are familiar with the JCC culture
Marketing and Recruitment
Meet with prospective parents and conduct school tours Plan and implement a calendar of activities for preschool families, including initial orientation to promote integration into the school and inclusion within the JCC
With Marketing and Graphic Design staff, prepare marketing strategies and materials (newsletters, social media, and website updates) for preschool and family programs and activities
Evaluate effectiveness of all preschool marketing and outreach efforts
QUALIFICATIONS: Among the many qualifications and qualities desirable in the Director are:
A deep love, understanding, and appreciation of the value and potential of young children.
Bachelors Degree in Early Learning or related field required; Masters Degree preferred
5 years of classroom experience in early learning programs.
Commitment to the importance of Jewish education as an essential element in perpetuating the beauty, values, culture, and importance of Judaism. Appreciation and welcoming of the full range of Jewish identities, practice, family structure, and culture.
Strong experience marketing a school and building enrollment in a competitive environment.
A driven, passionate, hard worker with infectious high energy who leads by example.
A desire to make the JCC Preschool at GRS the school of choice for the target audience. Someone who seeks continuous improvement and is never satisfied to rest on laurels.
Skilled at motivating, supporting, evaluating, hiring, and holding accountable faculty and staff
Able to articulate and sell a compelling vision and be a hands-on leader who makes sure that the school is a professionally-run, customer-responsive, consistent, and fiscally responsible enterprise.
A charismatic "face of the school" for internal and external audiences.
