Principal Responsibilities:
Position Overview
The General Manager (GM) serves as a senior member of the Tucson J's Experience Division and provides leadership and strategic oversight of four key operational areas: Membership, Aquatics, Racquet Sports, and Sports & Recreation.
Reporting to the Chief Experience Officer, the GM ensures that each department delivers exceptional member experiences, meets or exceeds programmatic and financial goals, and operates in alignment with the J's Service Pledge -- to provide the highest quality programs and services in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
The GM is a dynamic, hands-on leader who inspires teams, fosters operational excellence, strengthens community engagement, and helps ensure that the Tucson J remains the region's central "Town Square" -- a place where everyone belongs and some people join.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Management
- Provide visionary, values-based leadership for Membership, Aquatics, Racquet Sports, and Sports & Recreation departments.
- Supervise, mentor, and support departmental directors and managers, ensuring accountability, collaboration, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Partner with the CXO to establish annual plans, performance metrics, and operational priorities that advance the Tucson J's mission and member experience strategy.
- Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives designed to grow membership, enhance program participation, and deepen community engagement.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless member and guest experiences throughout the J.
- Participate as an active member of the Tucson JCC Yoatzim (Advisors) team
Operational Excellence and Member Experience
- Ensure each program area delivers outstanding customer service, hospitality, and safety.
- Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of programs that drive member satisfaction, retention, and growth.
- Work closely with the Facilities and Operations teams to maintain safe, attractive, and functional program spaces.
- Develop systems and processes that enhance efficiency, communication, and responsiveness to member needs.
Financial Management
- Partner with the CXO and Finance Department to develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets.
- Utilize data-driven decision-making to achieve financial and participation goals.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost optimization across supervised departments.
Staff Development and Team Building
- Recruit, train, and develop a strong, motivated team of professional staff.
- Foster a culture grounded in collaboration, learning, accountability, and mutual respect.
- Conduct regular team meetings, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Engagement teams to promote programs and enhance visibility in the community.
- Build partnerships with schools, leagues, and local organizations to expand participation and community impact.
- Represent the J in community events and professional networks as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in membership-based, recreation, or community organizations.
- Proven track record in staff supervision, financial oversight, and member experience leadership.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and inclusive culture of the Tucson J.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Salary:
$65,000 - $75,000
