Principal Responsibilities:

JCC Greater Boston is searching for someone that is dynamic, personable, and fun to teach Aqua Zumba lessons. This person will have a passion for exercising and will want to help people reach their in-water goals. The ideal candidate will be a creative teacher who makes the class time a highlight of the participants' weeks. Instructors will be in charge of class preparation, including music and day-to-day preparations. This position is for two hours per week in Newton.

This position will pay $25.00-$40.00/hour as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Responsibilities of Aqua Zumba Instructor

• Design, instruct, and facilitate Aqua Zumba classes
• Create a safe, supportive environment that fosters confidence and skill-appropriate conditioning
• Ensure the safety of all participants by preventative measures and minimizing hazardous situations
• Build trust and foster self-confidence, adapting the approach, as needed, to meet the unique needs of each swimmer
• Maintain discretion and class records
• Provide ongoing, effective communication with the supervisor regarding all classes and programming
• Manage equipment used for sessions
• Recognize and respond according to protocols in emergency situations
• Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications of Aqua Zumba Instructor

• Is energetic, patient, flexible, creative, and empathic
• Loves working with adults helping them achieve their goals
• Has water aerobics instruction experience; JCC will work with the otherwise qualified candidates to train in the Aqua Zumba specialty
• Is American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certified
• Has both a strong customer service and a teamwork orientation
• Is 21 years of age or older and has a high school education or equivalent

Essential Functions for Aqua Zumba Instructor

Abilities include:

• seeing, hearing, and cognitively recognizing situations requiring lifeguarding services
• working in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods
• standing, sitting, or lying on the pool deck and moving their body in a way similar to how the participants in the water should (demonstrating)
• lifting up to 30 pounds
• making safety-related decisions
• reading, writing, understanding, and speaking English.
• effective use of electronic devices for communication and time tracking purposes
• communicating effectively with community members and coworkers in person, over email, and on the phone
