Principal Responsibilities:
The Director of Marketing and Communications provides strategic leadership for all marketing, branding, and communications efforts at the JCC of Central NJ (JCC). This role sets and advances a cohesive, mission-driven marketing vision that serves a diverse ecosystem of internal and external stakeholders - including staff, lay leaders, families, donors, and community partners - across 12+ programmatic areas.
As a key thought partner to senior leadership and department heads, the Director of Marketing and Communications balances big-picture strategy with hands-on execution, translating organizational priorities into compelling narratives and innovative engagement strategies. During a period of departmental transition, they will assess agency-wide needs, communicate a clear strategic vision, and rebuild the marketing function to be responsive, forward-thinking, and aligned with both best practices in the field and the evolving needs of the community.
This is a 40 hour per week, overtime exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. Attendance and participation at occasional evening and weekend events is required.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with the agency's strategic plan and individual program goals
- Rebuild and lead the marketing department with a focus on strategic clarity, collaboration, and operational excellence
- Partner closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure marketing initiatives reflect organizational priorities and support long-term growth
- Proactively identify trends, tools, and innovative approaches to keep marketing efforts current, effective, and differentiated
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to department heads and managers, helping them engage varied constituency groups, increase participation, inspire philanthropy, and effectively tell their stories
- Translate impact and outcomes into compelling narratives that resonate with multiple audiences
- Develop and oversee an internal communications strategy that ensures staff and board members are informed, aligned, and connected to the agency's vision
- Collaborate with the philanthropy team on integrated communications strategies, including donor engagement, on-the-ground event presence, and direct interaction with supporters
- Oversee adherence to the branding standards of the agency
- Other relevant duties as assigned
Communications & Content
- Oversee website strategy, content maintenance, communications, and digital infrastructure
- Develop and manage social media and email strategies, including content calendars and audience segmentation, to effectively reach diverse constituencies
- Strategically mine, organize, and deploy content that clearly communicates how the JCC advances its mission and serves the community
- Provide creative direction and constructive feedback on print and digital collateral to ensure clarity, consistency, and impact
- Analyze performance data across media channels to refine strategies and support data-informed decision-making
Management
- Coach, develop, support and appraise marketing staff to maximize their effectiveness and professional growth
- Build strong, trust-based relationships across all JCC departments and with lay leaders, navigating differing needs and priorities with diplomacy and strategic insight
- Thrive in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment while maintaining strategic focus
- Plan and manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
- Negotiate contracts and oversee relationships with external vendors, including media buyers, designers, photographers, and videographers
- Implement systems and processes that support efficient, timely, and scalable marketing operations
Media & Partnerships
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local media outlets, schools, synagogues, and community partners to expand visibility and reach
- Collaborate with media buying agencies to plan and execute paid campaigns that support organizational goals
- Participate in internal task forces and cross-functional initiatives to advance agency-wide objectives

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, advertising or English preferred
- Minimum 8 years related professional experience in marketing and/or communications
- Experience with marketing in fundraising
- Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to problem solve, prioritize tasks, multitask and manage time effectively and efficiently
- Fine-tuned attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience developing and managing budgets
- Literacy and experience with Word Press, CRMs, Canva, Google analytics, email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, Emma), project management software (e.g., Asana, Monday.com), etc.
- Familiarity with non-profit organizations a plus
Physical Requirements
- Sit for extended periods while working at a desk and on a computer
- Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
- View and read digital content, reports, and marketing materials
- Occasionally lift or move light materials, typically up to 15 pounds
