Position Summary:
The Camp Hilbert Director is responsible for the leadership and oversight of Camp Hilbert Day Camp, serving upwards of 220 campers weekly. The position is responsible for development, planning, implementation, staffing, management and evaluation of all aspects of the camp. During the summer, the Camp Hilbert Director directly supervises full-time administrative and program staff and part-time, seasonal unit heads, specialists and counselors.
Throughout the school year, in addition to planning for camp, the Camp Hilbert Director leads the development and implementation of programs for youth and families, designed to strengthen and grow camp and community engagement. The Camp Hilbert Director provides support to Kids' Place afterschool program.

Occasional nights and/or weekends are required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Key Areas of Responsibility:
CAMP HILBERT
- Develop and implement a year-round strategy to ensure successful recruitment and retention of campers and staff.
- Plan for camp, including camper and staff recruitment, staff training, budgeting, programming and all logistics.
- In conjunction with the Director of Facility Operations, prepare Camp Hilbert facility for the opening and closing of camp, including all necessary site inspections, and ensure the proper maintenance, upkeep and management of Camp Hilbert's 110-acre facility.
- Work closely with the Aquatics Director to ensure proper maintenance, oversight, staffing and management of the Camp Hilbert pool to ensure the highest level of safety.
- Organize and manage all transportation logistics for camp, coordinating with the Director of Facility Operations for the proper maintenance and repair of all vehicles.
- Develop and monitor annual camp budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility
- Manage departmental payroll, purchasing and maintenance.
- Set up and oversee registration, camper assignments and waitlist management using the camp database.
- Coordinate schedules and supervise camp staff.
- Develop and implement a communications program with campers and their families to promote camper retention and recruitment.
- Follow personnel policies of the Center as described in the Weinstein JCC employee handbook.
- Provide quality customer service and work cooperatively with people at all levels with respect.
- Help create an environment which attracts volunteer support and revenue growth.
- Recruit, train, and supervise over 30 staff including counselors, junior counselors, CITs, specialists, and support personnel for summer camp sessions and year-round youth programs.
- Develop an orientation and camp staff training program, including weekly camp staff meetings and other camp-related activities.
- Manage staff specialists and ensure development and implementation of innovative and meaningful programming for all areas of the camping experience to include the areas of swimming, athletics, art, performing arts, Israeli culture, CIT, etc.
- Plan and oversee field trips, late stays and overnights.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for camp parents and Weinstein JCC staff.
- Incorporate informal Jewish education through Camp Hilbert programming.
- Serve as a role model for all campers and staff.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for campers.
- Ensure all staff members adhere to Camp Hilbert and Weinstein JCC policies, practices, and procedures.
- Ensure staff foster and maintain camper-centric attitudes and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
YEAR ROUND YOUTH AND FAMILY PROGRAMMING
- Create meaningful social, community service, sports, recreation and/or Judaic programming, to engage youth and families in the community including Purim Carnival, Ruach & Recreation Middle School Program and Kids' Night Out events.
- Plan and implement year-round activities at Camp Hilbert including Fall Festival and Kickoff to Summer).
- Represent Camp Hilbert at community camp fairs and special events.
- Support the Kids' Place afterschool program as needed (ex. School's Out Days, Winter & Spring Break Camps).
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, social work, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in camp leadership or youth program management, preferably in a supervisory role
- Proven experience in staff supervision, training, and performance management
- Strong program planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with professionalism and flexibility
- Knowledge of and comfort with Jewish traditions and values; prior experience in a Jewish camp or community setting is a plus
- Familiarity with camper safety and risk management protocols, including behavior management and emergency procedures
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfort with camp management software (e.g., CampMinder) is a plus
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed during peak seasons
Additional Requirements:
- CPR, AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Must have a valid driver's license, personal automobile liability insurance, and acceptable driving record.
