The Infant Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in managing the day-to-day care and development of our youngest learners. We are seeking a nurturing, patient, and compassionate individual who is dedicated to fostering a warm and safe learning environment for infants.

The successful candidate will support the development and implementation of our care and educational program that reflects the goals and values of the school. The assistant teacher will contribute ideas, creativity, and a passion for early childhood development as a key member of the teaching team. Additionally, the assistant teacher should have a strong understanding of infant development and a love for working with young children in a supportive, Jewish environment.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Early Childhood Education Director and Lead Teacher, the Infant Assistant Teacher will assist in carrying out all aspects of the infant care program. This includes supporting activities that foster infants' social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development, following the developmental philosophy of the Early Childhood Education Program and the mission of the Jewish Community Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

Principal Activities

  1. Supervising infants in various indoor and outdoor environments, ensuring their health, safety, and developmental needs are met.
  2. Maintaining accurate records for a group of infants, including attendance, feeding schedules, sleep patterns, health records, incident, and illness reports.
  3. Effectively communicating in oral and written English with staff, families, and other caregivers.
  4. Sharing daily updates and relevant information with parents, including infant behavior and developmental milestones.
  5. Being able to lift and carry an infant up to 45 pounds when necessary and sit on low chairs or the floor to engage with infants at their level.
  6. Participating in activities that promote physical development, including holding, rocking, and encouraging tummy time.
  7. Keeping infant areas clean, sanitized, and reporting any unsafe equipment to supervisors.
  8. Complying with New York State DCC Licensing Regulations, the ECC Handbook policies, and maintaining standards for NAEYC accreditation.
  9. Completing a minimum of 15 hours of additional training per year.
  10. Participating in and supporting all childcare responsibilities and other JCC activities as assigned by the Early Childhood Education Director.

Since its inception in 1927, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Binghamton, NY has grown to become an essential part of the Broome County community. As a full-service, non-profit organization, the JCC provides educational, cultural, recreational, and physical fitness programs to enhance the quality of life for all ages, from infants to senior citizens. As a non-sectarian United Way partner, the Center welcomes participants regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or ability to pay.

The JCC's facility houses a natatorium with a 2250 sq. ft. pool, gymnasium, small fitness center, men's and women's health clubs, steam, sauna, a fitness loft with spin bikes and Pilates reformers, stage, auditorium, and more. Over 200 children are served daily at our award-winning Early Childhood Center. Our year-round educational childcare includes UPK, after-school program, summer camp, and youth sports offerings.

The 8-acre land also features outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts, pavilion, nature preserve, soccer field, and three age-appropriate playground facilities.
