Principal Responsibilities:

Job Summary

The Assistant Controller leads financial operations, oversees day-to-day accounting, and partners closely with the CFO and CEO as a primary resource. Areas of ownership include management of daily, weekly, and monthly cash and accounts payable functions and spearheading the month-end close process, monthly departmental reporting vs budget, annual budgeting, and the year-end audit. In coordination with the CFO, the Assistant Controller provides direct supervision for junior Finance/Accounting team members.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

- Preparing reconciliations for multiple bank accounts

- Coordinating bank documentation, such as for changes to authorized signers

- Developing budgets for assigned departments

- Generating budget versus actual and forecast analysis for the entire organization

- Leading audit preparation by preparing schedules and organizing supporting documents

- Designing and implementing policies and procedures for effective controls and efficient operations

- Ensuring compliance on statutory, tax, and contractual matters, including the CFR for NY state

- Working closely with Director of Development on contributions revenue accounting and grant reporting

- Preparing ad hoc reports and working on special projects as necessary

- Demonstrating aptitude for growth in taking on progressively increasing levels of responsibility

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills, Education and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in accounting

- CPA certification or MBA a plus

- Five or more years of accounting and budget-related experience

- Experience with accounting software, QuickBooks Online preferred

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets

- Experience with nonprofit organizations preferred

- NYS CFR familiarity ideal

- Attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills

- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external parties across all functions and levels

- Excellent analytical skills, with a constant intellectual curiosity

- Interest in career development with the organization as opportunities arise

- Ability to work effectively as a team player

Salary:

$85,000 - $95,000
