Principal Responsibilities:
The JCC is seeking Full/Part-Time Swim Instructors to plan and teach water safety and proper swimming techniques to a diverse range of participants in all age groups in private settings.
Responsibilities:
- Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
- Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
- Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
- Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
- Complete records and reports
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions
- Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
- prepare and deliver technical guidance, age-appropriate and skill-focused group and private swim lessons based upon participant abilities.
- Arrive prepared to all sessions.
- Work collaboratively with participants and aquatics staff to ensure a positive and friendly environment with encouragement, goal-setting, and positive reinforcement.
- Provide excellent customer service and interact with parents when appropriate. Receive and respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determine issues and resolve or refer to higher-level staff as appropriate.
- Evaluate participant progress as needed.
- Ensure the safety of all participants.
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans.
- Enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Attend in-service training and meetings when necessary.
- Complete all additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Experience with competitive swimming and/or teaching swim lessons.
- Certification in Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid through the American Red Cross preferred.
- Knowledge of stroke mechanics and swimming skills.
- Ability to teach swimming to a wide variety of age groups and skill levels.
- Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults of all ages.
- Must be able to work as a team and manage conflict situations.
- Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
- Basic communication skills to follow instructions and interact with staff and members.
- Available to work nights & weekends/flexible schedule
Salary:
$35,000 - $45,000
