Job Description:

The Nurse is a dedicated, caring, and well-organized person that oversees the well-being of campers and staff. They work collaboratively with the Camp Director to make sure campers and staff are being cared for. Camp Kef at the Kaiserman JCC is an award winning, premier Jewish Day Camp committed to providing an excellent, well-rounded summer camp experience where all children have the opportunity to gain knowledge, skill, self-esteem, Jewish pride, lasting friendships and unforgettable memories, in a safe, nurturing and fun environment. We serve campers from infants through 10th grade.

Pay starts at $18/hour. This position is 40 hours/week and runs in person in Wynnewood PA, M-F June 23-August 15

Minimum Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

Provide healthcare to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers

Follow healthcare policies and procedures as described in the camp staff manual/parent handbook

Review all medical policies with Camp Director to ensure licensing by county, state and American Camp Association (ACA)

Conduct a staff orientation session on medical, health, and safety services

Inventory and all necessary medical supplies and equipment and set up the health room prior to the start of camp

Review camper and staff medical files prior to camp

Contact parents for specific follow-up questions

Keep all medications used by campers and staff

Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file

Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications

Oversee first aid procedures and supplies; prepare and distribute first aid kits for out-of-camp trips

Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director

Attend all orientation sessions and staff meetings

Be present at arrival and dismissal locations

Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in nursing or RN certification

Experience in Camp/Educational setting preferred

Must have strong communication skills

Ability to physically assist campers in and out of the pool

Ability to assist campers with reapplying sunscreen

Ability to change soiled clothes as needed

Ability to spend your camp day outdoors and walk and travel long distances.

Ability to move equipment and supplies as required

Willingness and ability to wear a mask for the entirety of the 7-hour camp day, if needed

CPR and First Aid certified with experience in First Aid and Emergency Management

Experience working with illnesses and injuries in both children and adults

Community health knowledge

Trained in using AED

Knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses and allergies and how they must be treated and accommodated in camp

Comfort level working with children with a wide range of abilities

Able to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters

Able to communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns

Prior experience working with school aged children with a wide range of abilities

Ability to engage with campers and staff of all ages.

Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards within the camp program

Able to communicate clearly and effectively with parents, children and peers

Knowledge of typical development in school-aged children

Must be able to get to and from work each day

Ability to engage with campers and staff of all ages.

Strong written and spoken language skills.
