PAY RATE/STATUS: $85K-$90K per year DOE / Full-Time, Exempt
The San Diego Center for Jewish Culture (CJC) is housed at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center (LFJCC), JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS, and is the largest local institution solely dedicated to exploring the Jewish experience through the arts. The mission of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture is to offer an array of entertaining and enriching cultural, educational and artistic programming which brings the community together to connect with Jewish heritage, identity, experiences and values. CJC is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for San Diego's entire community. The CJC offers a wide variety of programs that explore cultural identities and perspectives, promote cross cultural understanding, foster ideas of cultural appreciation and respect, and highlight human themes of family, tolerance, compassion and hope.
Reporting to the Chief Programs Officer (CPO), the Managing Director is a leader in setting the standard for engagement across the CJC, providing a framework and resources for programming that will successfully incorporate exceptional artists and thought leaders. The Managing Director will enhance and support the extraordinary richness of Jewish activities, including but not limited to, Jewish Film Festival, Literary Festival, performing and visual arts, Jewish education and JCompany (youth theater). The Managing Director will provide strategic vision for developing and implementing the operational structure and systems to support the CJC's programming and engagement activities. In partnership with the Artistic Director, this role will foster philanthropy and sponsorship, and lead the management of the SDCJC's resources, which include staff, finances and facilities. The Managing Director will be expected to regularly collaborate with the LFJCC's Marketing and Finance teams, ensuring streamlined and successful communication and operations.
The Managing Director, in close partnership with the Artistic Director, is responsible for ensuring that the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture is a vibrant, cultural, and intellectual hub for the Jewish and broader community, offering rich programming that reflects the needs and interests of Jewish community and the LFJCC. They will be responsible for implementing this program efficiently, while also ensuring fiscal responsibility.
The Managing Director and Artistic Director will be supported by the CJC Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer of the LFJCC/CJC and the Chief Program Officer of the LFJCC/CJC. This role necessitates the leadership acumen to manage a complex, ever-changing array of events and programs with staff, and the gravitas to manage key internal and external stakeholders. We have an "all hands on deck" culture which means sometimes duties, responsibilities will change with or without notice as needs arise.
Additionally, all new hires at the LFJCC/CJC are hired to "become" the role they have been selected to fulfill. We do expect that anyone will be able to effectively do all of the tasks as assigned on your first day, first week or maybe even first year of employment. We deeply understand that the nature of our "community building" work requires learning new systems, processes, people and cultural nuances that are best acquired over time.
