If so, JCC Greater Boston is seeking someone with your qualities to be a Lead Teacher and create happy, supportive and memorable experiences for children in grades K-5 who are attending the JCC Greater Boston Discovery Club After School. Discovery Club is an active and engaging after-school program located at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC in Newton. Position will run from September 9, 2021 - June 17, 2022 with some hours of orientation and training the week of August 30. The Lead Teacher will manage or assist in a classroom and will be supported by the Family Programming Team. This position is ideal for someone seeking engaging part-time work where they can make a difference in children's lives while enjoying being part of a collaborative, upbeat and friendly community.

- Foster creative and vibrant classrooms in a safe and enriching environment, helping the children develop positive social skills and interactions.
- Create engaging experiences for children in grades K-5 (ages 5-11 yrs); Lead children's activities such as art, LEGO, social activities, physical activities, outdoor play, free play, gym games, board games, and special projects. Supervise activities such as homework. Encourage positive social skills.
- Ensure compliance with Early Education & Care (EEC) policies and regulations. Maintain a safe environment for children to explore, play and grow. Maintain daily attendance records.
- Greet children as they arrive and help them feel welcome. Ride transportation or supervise public school transportation pickup, as needed. Escort children to enrichment classes elsewhere in the facility.
- Participate as a team member in Family Programming meetings and trainings
- Communicate day-to-day group happenings and activities with parents. Communicate effectively with Discovery Club Program Director, Site Coordinator and team staff. Address behavioral concerns with the Site Coordinator.
- Age 18 or older
- Based on licensing requirements, Group Leaders must have one of these three sets of qualifications:
- Nine months experience (including three months supervised experience) working with school-age children in a child care program;
- A high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months experience (including 3 months of supervision) working with school-age children in a child care program
- An Associates or Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus 3 months experience working with school-age children in a child care program;
- Enjoys and cares about children. Warm, cheerful, patient and nurturing.
- Flexible, mature and responsible
- Excellent communicator and skilled at collaborating with others
- Able to work program schedule: Monday to Friday from 2:30-6pm and Wednesdays from 12-6 pm
- Able to pass a CORI background check (state mandated)
- Citizenship, residency or work visa
- Speaks fluent English (ability to speak other languages also valuable)
- Able to be active with children throughout the day and to lift and carry at least 30 lbs as needed
